Sonnet 1: The Spirit Undone

By Genesis Cruz Ventura (grade 12)

To the next form this soul of mine decides,

 Have they th’ valor of my heart’s great lack;

To surrender on stage, the turning tides,

And feel audience’s ego weep back;

For up on th’ Globe, where life’s truths are spake,

I know ‘t to be most exact, when men

Whose performances doth make green minds wake,

Hear not their heart’s pulse thunder within them;

Thus as blessed as an act’s labor can be,

Silent I stay whilst I hear my dream mourn;

I accept that ‘tis not a role for me,

But for a future being bravely born;

       Only perhaps had I more time mine own,

       Th’ lost seeds of courage should I have sown.
