Amen

By Mat King

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

Do you fall upon knee and kneel.

Though His lips may smile, those eyes hold no warmth

Though His hands hold heart, trust not those empty words.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

You curse your misfortunes and failings.

Lower your eyes and lower the lights

And bow your head in hollow reverence.

Heavy tongues lie in light lipped leer

Behind glittering gold emboss.

A breathy prayer plumes the sparkling sequins

Dazzling the downcast eye, heart, and mind.

There is nowhere His eyes do not follow

Through door and confessional

There is nothing His eyes do not see

Through body and soul

Thus so upon pew do you fall

Hands clasped white around bead and braid

And with your head bowed down does pride part for prayer

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
