Try as You Might

By A Poem Guy

My english is sometimes good, usually not.

My poetry can be good, but usually isn’t.

Athletics,

Sometimes,

Music,

Not really.

Try as I might,

I just can’t get it right.

Every time I reach for the sky,

I fall further and further.

My insecurities pull at me, of course,

But my skills aren’t up to shape.

They’re not crisp,

Or clean,

Or sharp,

Or mean.

I’m just not good.

I’ve stagnated,

I’ve

Fallen.

Try as you might,

Try since you dare,

You can succeed.

I’ve fallen too far to climb back up, but you’re at the surface,

Half as far to go,

Just listen to me.

Please, hold on,

Don’t loosen your grip.

Don’t stop climbing,

Grab the nastiest, slimiest tendrils,

Just pull.

I didn’t take those strands,

I picked and chose.

And I fell for it.

And I will die for it.

I will live the rest of my life in an abyss if I don’t start climbing now.

And I will have to climb hard.

Grab the worst strands,

Almost fully pulled.

Dangling towards the earth

No one else wants to risk.

But I’ve already fallen,

Too many times.

So I’ll pull it,

Test my luck.

And I’ll fall,

Again and again.

And I will keep pulling.

If my skills can’t make it,

I’ll give it my all,

Until I can.

You will be careful.

Because I know you will.

I told you to pick any strand,

You’ll still only pick those that are safe.

So much to lose,

Don’t fall back to me.

You’ll climb slowly,

I’ll climb hard.

And I will get there first.
