Trying to Use my Catholic Education for Something

By Hibernica Piscis

I think of life in metaphors

And as allegories to biblical stories.

I’m Mary Magdalene

A cleansed sinner, abhor or adore me.

You can be a martyr

Our world’s shining glory

And though we clash and contrast

We’re bound by one story.

You can act as moral as you’d like

Go on, try and bore me.

And I can follow you around

Act like you restored me

Really, we’re two sides of the same coin

I’m sorry if that reflects sorely

I’ll be the Patriot

And you’ll be the Tory.

We’ll war for years

Land ourselves in history

And then we’ll settle and turn away

And you can act like you don’t know me.

We’ll go on, then, pretend that we’re not lonely.

For like God and his creations,

We’re all a load of phonies.
