A Dishonest Painting

A reflection in the mirror shows

A harsh jagged painted pattern

It shows a smug soldierlike figure

Leaving you with violence and arrogance

A bad taste in your mouth

I wash the paint from my face

A loud color revealed

Vibrant swirls announcing themselves to the room

Leaving you with exuberance and brightness

I wash the paint from my face

Simple colors of brown and forest greens show

Calm outlines of tan compliment the colors

Leaving you feeling simple and peaceful

I wash the paint from my face

The last layer

Excessive decorations brag sordidness

Reflecting anger and insecurities

Symbolizing ego and hate

Leaving you feeling inferior

I wash the paint from my face

What’s left is a blank canvas

No eyes

No nose

No lips

No soul

Reaching for the paintbrush

I apply another layer

And walk out of the house

Just like every other day
