“Solar System”
By a Poem Guy
Earth rotates at speed.
Faster than I could ever reach.
The sun burns bright.
Brighter than I could ever glow.
Saturn is majestic.
More royal than I could ever be.
Celestial bodies are full of grandeur.
And I’m just me.
But at least I can feel.
And at least I can love.
And at least I can…
Think.
Humans did not evolve to outreach planets.
Planets were not created to gloat to us.
But why not try?
Why not run faster than the earth?
And glow brighter than the sun?
And show off even more than Saturn, that narcissistic planet?
Thank whatever you believe in that humans are smart.
Because if there's one thing we can do better than rocks.
It’s thinking.
Brains have let us even attempt to challenge those giants.
Motivate us to forge a spear,
A weapon that can kill beasts bigger and stronger than ourselves.
Enlighten us to build cities,
Big enough to rival asteroids.
And teach us to invent rockets.
Flying through the sky,
Destroying those cities, making spears irrelevant.
Carrying us with them,
Above the sky itself,
Allowing us to see those giants.
If I know anything about the brain,
It’s its ability to see something superior,
And the ingenuity to rise above it.
Eventually, we’ll burn brighter than the sun.
Hotter than Mercury,
Denser than Venus,
Bluer than earth,
Redder than mars,
Greater than Jupiter,
More unique than Saturn,
And colder than the Ice Twins.
With unlimited potential,
And a brain of progress,
Why not compare?
When we know we can reach it.
And beyond.
