What Happened?
It was a beautiful morning, the flowers were blooming, and the sun was shining bright with a cool breeze. I was walking to school with my friend Leah and we took the longest way to school because we simply didn’t want to go. But if we didn’t go we would get in trouble. As we get to school we see the usual, football players wearing their jerseys, cheerleaders wearing their uniforms, and everyone just wearing their regular clothes. Everyone at school looked excited, even I was a little excited and I didn’t like coming to school.
The school was always so dull, but it seemed very bright today, everyone was talking to each other and walking around or some of them were just talking, I was usually the earliest, but everyone, everyone had their group of friends and if you didn’t then you had to find a group or you could just be by yourself. I was part of a group, it was some of my teammates along with our boyfriends, and a few of their friends.
Like every other day, John was with his friends, and whenever his friends were near, even though we were in the same friend group he would always treat me differently when we were at school. Only when we were at school, not when his friends would come to hang out with us at my house. It was like something at school was making him not want to hang out with me.
One day when I came to school he just completely ignored me. Like I was a ghost like I didn’t exist. I was so upset that he was being like this. It was now lunchtime and during brunch, John didn’t even hang out with us. He walked right past us and I said hi and he just ignored me AGAIN. I finally had enough.
“WHY ARE YOU ACTING SO DIFFERENT AT SCHOOL? YOU ARE NEVER LIKE THIS WHEN YOU COME TO HANG OUT. BUT NOW, WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?!” I yelled, everyone was shocked because I was always so quiet and I would just let everyone else talk for me, or I would talk really quietly when I talked to people.
John then grabbed my hand and pulled me to where no one was. “Do I really treat that differently from when we are just hanging out?”
“Yes, yes you do. All the time. Every time we come to school you treat me like shit”
“I have to, if I don’t then someone else will make your life a lot worse. I have to ignore you or you to stay happy”
“How can I stay happy when you are ignoring me? I know you are trying to protect me, but you have to understand that I can handle myself.”
“Ok” John grabbed my hand and we walked out to the lunch court hand in hand.
I turn to see my best friend mad about it and come to find out that she told everyone at school that they were dating. Wow, I thought we were friends.
